The BBC article “What are UV levels and how can you protect yourself?” discusses the importance of minimizing sun exposure and chances of skin cancer. Along with a diagram that provides information about the UV levels that are relatively safe versus unsafe, it provides a brief guide to what people should be aware about whenever they prepare to head outside, whether it may be a sunny or an even cloudy day—as the article states, skin burns can still occur under cloudy conditions.
I chose to write a reflection on this advice-based article because I think that, when news platforms give advice about something, they do so because it is timely and is serving the public good. Plus, this article is under the Climate section, which reminds me of how climate change is contributing to increased UV exposure, threatening public safety. I wish more people, especially those who are currently in power in the US, would please understand that taking measures to mitigate climate change has immense benefits—benefits that can help their own family members.
