Reflection:
In the Reuters article “US appeals court allows Trump's EPA to nix climate grants,” journalist Nate Raymond reports on a court decision that favored the current administration’s EPA leadership by allowing the agency to freeze over $10 billion of funds to environmental organizations. U.S. Circuit Judge Cornelia Pillard, an appointee from the Obama administration, responded through a dissent statement, noting that the ruling was wrong to disregard a bill—in this case, the Inflation Reduction Act (2022)—that was enacted through Congress legally.
It’s surprising to me that so many promises and pledges from the past can be dismantled so quickly. This seems to be a continuous, recurring pattern in politics across presidential terms—opposition parties that gain control of the executive branch and try to remove most, if not all of the changes made by the previous administration. And then a repeated cycle. Again. And again.
Is it better for this cycle to not be a cycle? To be a less perpetuating system?
