Reflection:
In the BBC article “Top UN court says countries can sue each other over climate change,” journalists Georgina Rannard and Esme Stallard discuss a court ruling from the International Court of Justice (ICJ) that stated that climate change could serve as a basis for suing other nations. As the article states, this ruling is a huge change that can support countries who were at a large disadvantage and had to face the numerous negative effects of climate change. The journalists also convey that this ruling is a source of hope for those who are seeking justice and compensation.
It literally feels like a breath of fresh air to hear about this positive climate-related story. Nationally there’s just been too much upsetting news about the climate and environmental efforts recently. I’m so relieved that there’s this global tone that is set for what is tolerated and not tolerated in terms of environmental responsibilities.
I wonder if there's a website with just good news about the climate? Now that would be refreshing.
