Reflection:
In the Forbes article “Technology And Justice Systems: A Path To Transformation,” journalist Richard Hobbs discusses the relationship between technology and the justice system. Hobbs discusses the multifaceted nature of this relationship, including how advancing technology can contribute to more criminal activity and also be incorporated into the virtual filing system to make the justice system investigations more efficient than before. The article acknowledges the downfalls and risks that technological incorporation can result in while emphasizing on the benefits, which range from its potential to help create a modern court system to data-gathering capabilities.
I agree with this article. Similar to what Hobbs shares, I believe that—especially with the extensive technological advancements from over the past years—it is necessary and prudent to take advantage of these changes by incorporating them into (e.g.) in this case, justice systems. But at the same time, justice is a topic that I think requires a careful balance between subjective decision-making in terms of morals (and ethics) and data. I really want to learn about the nuances in the obstacles of maintaining this balance. I wonder if there are people who help advise companies that work with justice systems to help them make decisions in terms of what is going to be most helpful with supporting the justice system processes.
