Reflection:

In the article “The U.S. Under Trump: Alone in Its Climate Denial,” journalist David Gelles discusses the current administration’s actions in approaching climate concerns. The article discusses the different nuances of permits and the role that increased efficiency for permits can have on pro-drill as well as pro-environment initiatives. The article also discusses how the US is not following science, as shown by the National Climate Assessment contributions’ dismissals. The article then proceeds by discussing how the administration was changing regulations that had been established for years then talks of the Environmental Protection Agency.

To be honest, the news makes me feel so discouraged these days especially when I look at climate or environment-related news. Everything seems to be falling apart. For example I was honestly so surprised when I saw that a page that I frequented often during my topic exploration process for NHD—the EPA environmental justice timeline—was no longer there. I’m assuming that’s because of the de-funding of environmental programs by the current administration. I know that not having access to a webpage isn’t the end of the world, but it seems to signal the start of something even more foreboding. Maybe that thing has already started. I don’t know. It’s pretty frustrating because you would think that all the concrete, tangible evidence is not disputable. But somehow it is disputable? I don’t get society sometimes.
