After a close call to a government shutdown, the House passed a stopgap plan bill as of Saturday. The bill will allow the government to function, continue paying its federal agency employees, and provide public services, according to The New York Times. As a result of this bill — which still has to be passed by the Senate — is a result of bipartisanship. As far-right legislators believed the bill will result in excessive spending, McCarthy depended on votes from the Democratic lawmakers, according to The New York Times.

I wonder how government shutdowns directly impact people other than those who are federal workers. Marginalized communities. Will they be hit the hardest? Politics is a topic that directly affects people's lives, but is also so sensitive since people hold so many different ideologies on so many different levels. When it comes to a government shutdown, the negotiations taken to find compromise between two contentious groups is no small feat.
