Reflection:

In The New York Times article “After a Winter Deluge, California Rivers Are Too Dangerous to Enjoy”, journalist Jill Cowan details the dangerous conditions that have surfaced in rivers across the state. For her story angle, she focuses on Kern River, whose path stems from Mount Whitney. With the “parade of epic winter storms”, Cowan writes, going into the waters of rivers like Kern have prompted multiple regions to urge against such an act (par. 4).

Touring spots hold deep meaning for many Californians, and the fact that people cannot go to those memory-fulfilling places without being fearful for their safety is upsetting. Personally, if a spot cherished in my memories was a site that I am now unable to reach, I would feel truly disheartened and nostalgic for the past. Is this another incentive for climate action?
