In The New York Times article “After Warmth From Biden, South Korea’s Leader Faces a Different Tune at Home”, journalist Choe Sang-Hun discusses the polarized state of the country, which has been exacerbated through the “Washington Declaration”. As the country also faces nuclear threats from North Korea, this joint statement declared that the U.S. and South Korea will closely consult with one another for nuclear strategies. Proponents of this declaration argue that it is an official act of deterring nuclear arms. However, as Choe writes, there are critics of this declaration, with many viewing it as something that will worsen South Korea’s foreign relations with China (an economic partner), Russia, and North Korea.

I wonder what will happen next.
