Article: A Fresh Twist to a Knot
In the article “A Fresh Twist to a Knot”, writer Daisy Hay shares the analysis for an exchange of letters during the late 18th-century. Through this analysis, this Lapham's Quarterly article details the events that led to Mary Wollstonecraft’s eventual death as well as the marital complexities surrounding her.
This article lured me in because I had briefly learned about Mary Wollstonecraft in my modern world history class this year. I love to make connections between what I have learned in class and what I see in the real world, so this article intrigued me. This read reminded me of the importance of historical annals: even if it is an exchange of letters, each and every word can serve as a timeline as to what happened to a historical figure or a historical cause. Primary sources are always so interesting. A hundred years from today, what will be qualified as a “rare”, imperative primary source?
