Article: Atheist Dad Is Transformed After Glimpse of Heaven as Toddler Son is Taken Off Life Support
Reflection:
Prior to the Battle of the Milvian Bridge in 324 A.D. Constantine and his army saw a cross with the words “In hoc signo vinces”, translating to “in this sign conquer”. The same day, Constantine dreamt of God instructing him to use the sign of the Lord in the battle. As a result, Constantine marked the soldiers’ shields with the cross, and was able to crush his opponents in the Battle of the Milvian Bridge.
In an Epoch Times article titled “Atheist Dad Is Transformed After Glimpse of Heaven as Toddler Son Is Taken Off Life Support”, Geeta Nangia shares a story of an impatient, easily-frustrated father who met God as he laid by his two-year-old son before taking him off life support in 2012. According to the article, the father (Darin Hamm) experienced a sensation of traveling, where he could only see a stretch of blue sky. He saw his son smile down at him as the latter led the way towards heaven, asking Hamm “ ‘Daddy, may I stay?’ ” to which he replied, “ ‘Of course you can stay!’ ” (Nangia 21, 23) In this encounter with heaven, Darin Hamm also recounted a conversation with the Lord, where He told showed him how the transparent selfishness of his past actions and provided hope by gently, lovingly telling him that he had not been kind to the people God had placed in his life. After this epiphany, Hamm began seeing the world with a new set of eyes—eyes accepting forgiveness, humility, comfort, and selflessness for others.
As a devout Catholic, I am intrigued when I hear about God’s real-life appearances. This article has reminded me of the great influence He has on us, and incentives me to be a humble, forgiving, and loving person towards society as well.
