Reflection:

In the article “Across America, Big Cities Are Sinking. Here’s Why.,” journalist Mira Rojanasakul discusses how many heavily populated regions are sinking as a result of water pump usage where excessive amounts of water are used. Bedrock expanse(s) also contributes to sinking land along with climate change, which prompts more water usage during times of extreme dryness.

This reminds me a lot of my AP Human Geography class because it shows how much geography can impact society in the present and in the future. I feel like it’s so easy for people, myself included, to be so wrapped up and immersed in one’s own personal bubble and one’s personal life that it’s hard to think beyond. If I hadn’t been looking through The New York Times then how in the world would I have been able to learn and be aware that cities were sinking? I think this article today has also taught me how far taking a single step can take someone. I’ve always heard from study or productivity videos that getting started is one of the hardest parts of doing something you initially may not be eager to do at the moment. Something I definitely need to work on as a person and as a student is becoming less hesitant to take that initial step.
